Jedan od najčuvenijih i najzagonetnijih slučajeva nestanka aviona iznad Bermudskog trougla desio se sunčanog decembarskog dana 1945. u 14 časova i 10 minuta. Pet torpednih bombardera tipa 'osvetnik' poletelo je iz američke vazdušne baze Loderdejl, u Floridi. Krenuli su u pravcu istoka, prema Bahamskim ostrvima, na put dug 600 kilometara.
